Mixed-Neurotype Couples Therapy

Helping neurodiverse couples establish healthy patterns of communication and accommodation
Finding a therapist who really understands the challenges of a mixed-neurotype relationship can feel almost impossible. A lot of people who start couples therapy feel like they can't find a therapist who will just listen without jumping to the worst conclusion, and when your communication style is not neurotypical, that’s even more likely. Perhaps you can relate. Maybe you want to make changes but you fear misunderstanding from a therapist, or maybe you need a guide through some of the rougher patches to navigate in a neurodiverse relationship and don’t want to hear neurotypical communication suggestions that won’t work for either of you.
You’re looking for understanding and accommodation, but all you’re getting back is confusion and judgement, so you feel stuck.
My name is Kristina Jones, I am a relationship therapist, Autistic ADHDer, and one half of my own mixed-neurotype relationship, and I am here to help.
Do you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or disillusioned with the prospect of finding a good couples therapist?
Do any of the following sound like you?
You, your partner, or both of you are under the neurodivergent umbrella and looking for guidance tailored to your unique situation.
You're interested in changes to your communication, but don't want to be told (again) to just do better at masking.
You want to figure out the right accommodations for each of you, but you’re not sure where to start.
If these sound true for you, I want you to know that it makes sense if you feel frustrated after trying to just make it work. Society acts like we should just naturally be great at relationships. But good relationship therapy can provide a non-judgemental space for you to talk freely about what’s bothering you. Being genuine to yourself and your needs, particularly in a relationship, is one of the most important things you can do in life.
Therapy can help you improve your relationship without judgement
It’s possible to feel better. Imagine a life where you could...
Experience the kind of intimacy you want with your partner.
Improve your relationship with yourselves and those you choose to share yourselves with.
Cultivate more meaningful relationships based on who you really are and what you desire.
Have the loving relationship you've always wanted.
You deserve relationship therapy tailored to your needs
Couples therapy that’s truly neurodiversity-affirming helps you rise above your personal and relationship challenges and start moving towards your ideal relationship with less frustration and more clarity. You will get the fresh perspectives you need to feel safer in your relationship and finally find answers and get the help you need.
Even if you are nervous about starting therapy, the right therapist can help.
I've helped many mixed-neurotype couples maintain safe, loving relationships with themselves and their partners. Through therapy grounded in compassion and connection, my clients discover what they really need from themselves and the people around them to truly feel heard, understood, and loved.
How relationship therapy works with me
Couples therapy with me generally consists of 50- or 75-minute sessions that help you work through your concerns. I will ask questions and guide you towards solutions, playing an active role in the therapy process rather than just staring at you blankly. I draw from many different couples therapy modalities and choose tools that make sense for your situation. Our first two sessions together will be an intake session for each of you so that I can get a sense of where you each are before we talk about where you’d like the relationship to go.
My main goal is to provide a safe, accepting space so that you will feel comfortable sharing your struggles with me. Together, we figure out what your challenges are and work on fixes that are true to who you are and who you want to be.
